What kind of church is this?

CPC is a family oriented church that worships and celebrates God, educates its members, and shares the Good News with our community.

We are part of the fastest growing city in the upper Midwest. We have quality healthcare, higher education, commerce, and technology while living in safe, friendly neighborhoods. Our congregation consists of beloved elderly, mature adults, young families, and fantastic youth all celebrating together in the Lord!

CPC rejoices with a full range of Sunday Services, special liturgical events, as well as Easter and Christmas celebrations.  A typical Sunday worship blends a reverential view of God with uplifting music (congregational, choir, small ensembles, and bells), and a time for children’s directed sermons.  Communion is served monthly and provisions are made to serve the elements to those who are unable to attend.

CPC relies on a solid and innovative educational program.  Preschool-Adult Sunday School, confirmation, VBS, PW studies, small Bible study groups all play an important role in sustaining and encouraging members to seek God’s will.

What's do we believe and what's our mission?

We are saved solely by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.

The mission of Community Presbyterian Church is to nurture individual spiritual growth through the Bible, the inspired Word of God. We seek to embrace the hearts and minds of all individuals through worship, fellowship, and service.

We care for one another and we equip our members to reach out to the community in word and service.

What do we do and how do we do it?

CPC participates in the community in more than name. We reach out by providing ongoing support to the Salvation Army to feed the needy and by supplying bell ringers at Christmas. PW support a “Teen Mom” mentoring program and the New Life Center for the homeless. A fellowship group creates quilts for the community. Food Pantry, Giving Tree, United Campus Ministries, and Gideon’s are other regularly supported missions. Members are involved in personal ministries, caring for their neighbors, and witnessing to others.

We have gifted, enthusiastic and hard working members who provide lay leadership, musical talents, and puppet and clown ministries. Artistic members have brought Bible stories to life with wall murals in our education wing.

Our congregation has a strong work ethic and a will to volunteer their time, skills, and treasures where there is a need. Many of our members possess technical, business, and financial expertise. We enlist the talents of these members to effectively lead the church through the session, maintain the infrastructure through the trustees, enliven the church through music, teach the people through Christian education, praise and revere God through the direction of the worship committee, and show hospitality through service and fellowship groups.

CPC’s greatest gift is that God has blessed us with each other and we enjoy and celebrate Him as a real community of believers.

What is our statement of faith?

The following statement of faith was approved by a vote

of the membership at the 2012 Annual Meeting

We believe in a Triune God—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—who created everything, who saves us, and who sustains us. We know this because:

The Bible is the inspired word of God. It is an eternal gift which reveals His wisdom, righteousness, grace, and love for us. It is the one infallible authority on all matters of faith and practice. We live in a confusing world and God’s Word, revealed in the Bible, is the compass by which we find direction and comfort.

God sent His Son to us in Jesus Christ. He is not merely a son of god, but THE Son of God. Christ was the perfect sacrifice for our sins and His actions alone have saved us from our sins. His resurrection from the dead on the third day assures us of eternal life, and frees us to live for Him. In Christ, God is revealed in a human form which we can understand and from whom we can learn. Christ calls us to be disciples and He charges us with spreading the good news of His sacrifice. We take this commission to heart and derive strength and reassurance from it.

God’s grace alone is sufficient to save us. As a saved people we are called to follow Jesus Christ, striving towards holiness and showing hospitality and love to all. Appreciating His grace and being confident in it allows us to witness boldly to others so that they too might hear the good news of salvation.

Finally, we believe that faith in Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation. Our faith is given to us by the Holy Spirit. We are compelled to this faith irresistibly and we know that it is a gift of God. Faith alone sustains, protects, and delivers us from the stresses and strains of the world.

These essential beliefs are more fully explained in the system of belief contained in the Nicene and Apostles’ Creeds, the Scots Confession, the Second Helvetic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Westminster Confession of Faith and Larger and Shorter Catechisms, the Theological Declaration of Barmen, the Confession of 1967, and the Brief Statement of Faith.

What's our denomination?
